EFC 48 – Results

What an action packed night of fights as EFC delivers for their Cape Town fans again, man the city loves their fights. As Greame Cartmell, EFC match maker predicted at the weigh in, the prelims delivered some epic fights.

EFC 48 main card was kicked off by Hanru Botha vs Sibusiso Mdoku with some wild punches being thrown from the first bell, it was clear this one was not going to go the distance, 19 seconds of the very first round Botha connected with a flurry of punches leaving Mdoku starched on the canvass.

Up next we saw FFM gym member Mark Hulme vs Kaleka Kabanda. Hulme, intense as ever, showed some great skills all round to dominate DRC’s Kabanda throughout round 1, to ultimately sink in a deep rear naked choke and securing the victory, 1:41 of round no. 2.

Cape Town local Don Madge vs Tyson Chelin delivered as we’ve come to expect from The Magic Man. With great technique, Madge delivered an epic body kick that Chelin could not recover from. Madge with the TKO victory, 0:54 in round one, showing that he is back on track to the title.

Co-main event saw Irshaad Sayed vs Cedric Doyle, a great stand up battle ensued from the get go. Both fighters showed intent, with Doyle showing he is one tough fighter absorbing a lot from Sayed. With one minute to go in the third round Sayed had Doyle up against the cage and delivered a knee that saw the ref step in and stop the bout, giving Sayed the TKO victory 4:59 in round 3, sending a message to Pena.. “anytime, anywhere”

The main event of the evening featured the heavy weights Danie van Heerden vs Brendon Groenewald vying for the vacant title. In typical van Heerden fashion, he continued to move forward engaging at ever occasion. Groenewald ultimately shot for the take down, got it wrong and The Pitbull ended in the better position, got the mount and rained down with some nasty ground and pound which resulted in TKO victory 3:22 in round 2.

Mark Kamba defeated Tyron Bester via TKO 1:50 in round 1.
Francois Groenewald defeated Boney Bukaka via Armbar submission 3:19 in round 1.
Mamoudou Toure defeated Andrew Smith via TKO 3:51 in round 1.
Lyle Karam defeated Gorilla Ossoko via TKO 3:29 in round 2.
Bruno Mukulu defeated Stefan Pretorius via unanimous decision.
