EFC55 Preview & Predictions

Cape Town, South Africa – This Friday, Grand West will play host to the biggest fight in EFC history, when current bantamweight champion Demarte “The Wolf'” Pena takes on interim champion, Irshaad “White Tiger” Sayed in a unification bout. a Fight that has been 18 months in the making and is sure to deliver on all the hype. Cape Town fans are in for a treat.

a Hollywood screen writer could not have done a better job with the suspense and excitement that will fill the Grand Area come Friday night. Pena, who fights out of Fight Fit Militia will be looking to go 12-0 with a victory over Sayed. The majority of Demarte’s victories coming by way of decision, would look to silence the Cape Town fans with his improved all round game.

Irshaad “White Tiger” Sayed has won championships internationally with vast experience and will prove to be Pena’s toughest challenge to date. An all round good fighter with great striking, grappling and a consistent finisher, will be looking to continue in similar fashion. Our prediction: Winner: Irshaad “White Tiger” Sayed by TKO/KO

Preceding the main event is the rematch for the lightweight championship between current champion, the USA’s Dave ‘The Pain Train’ Mazany and former champ, Leon ‘Iron Lion’ Mynhardt a late replacement following the injury to Don Madge. Leon will be looking to redeem himself and get back what he lost to Mazany. Tough one to call, has Leon had enough time to prepare, had his focus on December fight with Azi Thomas.. Is Mazany ready for a different opponent.. We’re hoping it lasts longer than their first encounter, could we see a 5 round war, we hope so Our prediction: Winner: Dave ‘The Pain Train’ Mazany by SUB.

Two former heavyweight champions, hungry for vitory are set to clash when Ruan Potts takes on Brendon Groenewald in what could be a BJJ fan’s dream match up. Both fighters possess slick Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu skills with powerful striking. To the uneducated fans, this might be a boring match up either way a win would put both fighters back in the no 1 contention spot to challenge Andrew van Zyl for the title. Our prediction: Winner: Brendon Groenewald by SUB
